Presentation: An Introduction to High Performance Cluster File Systems

This will be an overview of High Performance Cluster File Systems including storage aggregation, high performance file servers using protocols other than NFS, and availale free cluster file systems such as PVFS, PVFS2, Lustre, and commercial offerings such as GPFS, GFS, CXFS, TerraScale and Ibrix Fusion.

Presentation:An Introduction to Computer Recycling

Jhasen will discuss a lot of computer recycling issues, including a description of the bad things in computer equipment, what needs recycled, some of the obstacles to recycling, and so on.

Richard will discuss the role of OpenSource software in making recycling a practical alternative to simply tossing everything out.

Presentation: Map Server An Open Source Web Based GIS Application

Matthew Doggett from the Oregon State University College of Oceanography of Atmospheric Sciences has been working with Open Source GIS (Geographic Information Systems) packages for quite some time. In particular, he has been working with Map Server which is an OpenSource development environment for constructing spatially enabled Internet-web applications. It was originally developed by the University of Minnesota, although it is currently quite popular and large development community today. And of course, it runs in a Linux/Apache environment.

  • A critical view of a few cool web mapping sites

John is an active member of the Asterisk community, and has built several VoIP service providers, infrastructure companies, and enterprise systems on Open-Source telephony solutions.

Presentation:Final Appearance of the Badger Badger Badger Tour
by Jeff Waugh of Ubuntu and GNOME fame.

Jeff Waugh has been traveling for a month and a half, criss-crossing the northern hemisphere, to bring the world of Ubuntu to our doorstep. His final stop is Portland before going back to his home in Australia.

Jeff will be talking about Ubuntu Linux, GNOME, the role of Free/ Open Source Software in developing countries (and the US, of course). Expect badgers, mushrooms, schnaaaaaakes, an awful lot of Ubuntu CDs, and a healthy dose of madcap hijinks.
